How we ran this

Each prompt comes from the community prompt library and was sent unchanged to both models through the same API ShimmerPic uses, one run each, at 1:1, 2K resolution, Standard quality, on September 11, 2026. Nothing was cherry-picked from multiple attempts; what you see is the first result. 7 pairs are shown; one further run was excluded because its source prompt named a real athlete and third-party trademarks. One run per prompt is a sample, not a benchmark.

A useful non-Latin text sample: both models rendered the dense Chinese labels legibly. Flare packed more dishes in with a numbered list and callouts; Sunburst laid the page out more like a map, with a legend box, wider spacing and clearer routes between towns.

Both nailed the film look: grain, warm cast, on-camera flash falloff, cluttered bedroom. Flare's frame is cleaner and includes a date stamp; Sunburst's has heavier grain, a warmer skin tone and more background clutter — hanging plants, photos on the wall — which reads more like a found photograph.

Almost interchangeable: both gave a squishy matte cloud with glossy eyes and pink cheeks on pure white. Flare's gradient runs slightly more saturated into lilac and blue at the base; Sunburst's is softer and the edge lighting a touch more even. On a prompt this simple the models converge.

Flare drew twenty-odd different animals — sloth, crocodile, corgi, chick — with more variety per cell; Sunburst reused a cast of six characters across poses, which is closer to how a real sticker pack is built. Choose by whether you want variety or a consistent cast.

Flare framed a full-length model in the alley with a smaller headline and caption text; Sunburst pushed the hoodie itself into the hero position under a large metallic wordmark and added a second line of copy. Sunburst produced a more varied village — a church, trees, tiny figures, different roof materials — with a shallower depth of field and warmer colour. Both rendered the handwritten annotations legibly and kept the same face across outfits. Flare gave seven figures with denser labels and more varied poses; Sunburst gave eight, spaced more evenly, with slightly more consistent proportions from figure to figure.

What we took from it

Across these runs Sunburst tended to add more detail per element and to produce more finished layouts; Flare tended toward simpler compositions. Both models rendered Latin and Chinese text legibly in our samples. That matches OpenAI's own framing — Flare as the fast default, Sunburst for premium work — and it means the choice is about time, not price: on ShimmerPic both models cost the same credits.
