ChatGPT Images 2.5

ShimmerPic is an independent tool and is not affiliated with OpenAI. This page explains what OpenAI shipped on 8 September 2026 under the name ChatGPT Images 2.5, why you will also see it called GPT Image 2.5, and how to run the two models it comes in without going through ChatGPT.

GPT Image generator

ChatGPT Images 2.5 and GPT Image 2.5 are the same generation

How it works

  1. Know which one you are looking for. If you want the assistant — chatting, following up in conversation, images alongside everything else ChatGPT does — that is OpenAI, at chatgpt.com. Nothing here replaces it.
  2. Or skip the chat and go straight to the image. A tool like this one is narrower on purpose: a prompt box, a model switch, a ratio, a resolution, and a price quoted before you spend anything. No conversation to steer, no subscription to start.
  3. Run both models on the same prompt. Here Flare and Sunburst are two buttons at the same credit price, so putting the same prompt through both is a matter of generating twice. Each generation is charged on its own, but neither model carries a surcharge over the other.

What to put in the prompt

The prompt craft is the same either way. Subject, then setting, then light. Camera language — 50mm, f/2.8, eye level — is understood. None of that changes with where you run the model.

Quote the words you want rendered. Text rendering is one of the areas the 2.5 generation is strongest at, but only when it knows a string is meant to be read rather than suggested.

Bring a reference photo. Up to three per generation, 3 credits each. Reference preservation is the improvement most worth exercising in this generation.

Say what to leave alone when you edit. Naming what should survive an edit is more reliable than naming only what should change.

Prompts to start from

Community prompts in the matching categories, each shown with the image it produced. Open one and the text is filled in for you.

What it costs

Base price per image, identical for Flare and Sunburst. Prompts over 500 bytes add 2 credits per further 1,000 bytes; each reference photo adds 3. The Studio shows the exact quote before you generate.

Questions

Is ShimmerPic ChatGPT?

No. ShimmerPic is an independent image tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI. It reaches the GPT Image 2.5 models through an API provider. For ChatGPT itself, go to chatgpt.com.

Why does the same model have two names?

OpenAI announced the release as ChatGPT Images 2.5 — the product name — while the API models are named GPT Image 2.5 Flare and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst. Tools that call the API, including this one, use the API names.

Do I need a ChatGPT subscription to use this?

No. There is no OpenAI account involved on your side. Sign up with an email address, spend the 30 credits a new account gets, and buy more only if you want to.

Are the images the same as what ChatGPT produces?

They come from the same model generation, but we cannot promise identical output: an assistant adds its own prompt handling, defaults and safety layer on top of the model, and those differ between products. What we can say is which model produced your image, because you picked it.
