How it works

  1. Decide whether you actually need 2.0. Most searches for GPT Image 2 are looking for a GPT image generator, not for that specific version. What to put in the prompt

Prompts written for 2.0 still work. Nothing about the prompt format changed between the generations. What changes is how literally the light, the texture and the reference photo come through.

Re-test your reference-heavy prompts first. Reference preservation is where 2.5 moved most. If you had prompts that drifted on 2.0 when you uploaded a product, those are the ones worth running again.

Expect edits to hold better. Multi-turn editing was specifically called out in the 2.5 release. Chains of instructions that used to degrade after two rounds tend to survive further now.

Do not assume identical output. This is a different model generation, not a patched one. A prompt tuned against 2.0 output may need its lighting clause loosened before 2.5 stops over-delivering on it.
