How it works

  1. Describe the subject, then the setting, then the light. That order matches how the model reads a prompt. "A ceramic mug on a windowsill, late afternoon sun raking across it, steam catching the light" gives it three separate things to get right instead of one vague mood.
  2. Pick the model. Flare is the default: OpenAI positions it as the faster of the two, at up to 50% lower latency than GPT Image 2. Sunburst is the precision option. Neither costs more than the other here, so the choice is about time, not money.
  3. Set ratio and resolution, then iterate. Explore at 1K — 3 credits a go — until the composition is right, then re-run the winner at 2K or 4K. Re-running a settled prompt at higher resolution costs far less than exploring at 4K.

What to put in the prompt

Name the light before the adjectives. "Single soft light from the upper left, gentle falloff" changes an image more than "beautiful" or "professional" ever will. Light direction is the one instruction the model follows most literally.

Put text in quotes. GPT Image 2.5 renders words well when it knows they are words. Write: the sign reads "OPEN TILL LATE", lower right. Text you do not quote tends to come back as decoration.

Upload a reference instead of describing a thing you own. Three sentences describing your own product will never match one photo of it. References cost 3 credits each and the 2.5 generation is built to preserve what is in them.

Say what should stay. When editing, name the parts that should survive: "keep the pose and the background, change only the jacket". The 2.5 models are tuned to understand what not to touch.

Is this the GPT Image generator from ChatGPT?

No. ShimmerPic is an independent tool and is not affiliated with OpenAI. It reaches the GPT Image 2.5 models — Flare and Sunburst — through an API provider. The model is the same generation OpenAI released on 8 September 2026; the interface, the pricing and the prompt library are ours.

Do I need an API key or an OpenAI account?

Neither. Sign up with an email address and you get 30 credits to spend straight away. There is nothing to install and no key to paste.

What does one image cost?

From 3 credits for 1K Standard up to 40 for 4K High, plus 3 credits per reference photo and a small surcharge on prompts over 500 bytes. The exact number is quoted before you generate, and failed generations are refunded.

Which model should I pick?

Flare while you are still exploring, Sunburst for the one you keep — in our own side-by-side runs Sunburst held more fine surface detail. They cost the same, so there is no penalty for trying both.
